Artist Lecture: "A Citizen of No Nation"

Toni Lovejoy’s recent work, A Citizen of No Nation, explores the issues of slavery and its ongoing impact in our society. It is her visual reconstruction of her family genealogy and exploration of the dichotomy of being descended from both the slave and the slave-owner. This work helps her to explore the past, honoring the pain of history and facilitating a catharsis. Friends and family pose as ancestors to personalize the pain, both for herself and the viewer, allowing one to see the inhumane story within her family line as well as many others with similar histories.

Lovejoy will be sharing about her work and experience during this artist lecture.
