About this Event
The Wells Fargo Center for Community Engagement at Queens University is excited to announce our inaugural partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Community Read program throughout March 2021. The Community Read challenges 10% of the Mecklenburg population to read and come together over a chosen text, meant to encourage community dialogue around the themes of racism and social justice. The signature title, I’m Not Dying with You Tonight by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal, includes a scheduled appearance by the authors on March 24, 2021. This is Queens' inaugural year of participation with the community read through the Wells Fargo Center for Community Engagement.
Our very own, Professor Shawn Bowers ’01 will lead an Alumni Book Circle on this book. This discussion will explore how prejudice promotes racism. What lies at the root of prejudice, and what false narratives do the main characters in this novel fall prey to? We follow Lena and Campbell for a scary, wild night, but what happens when the morning comes?
