Leadership in Turbulent Times: The Leaders & the Times - How They Led

Dr. John Bennett will explore the life and leadership lessons identified by Doris Kearns Goodwin in her New York Times best seller “Leadership in Turbulent Times.” This session will examine the insights and observations of US Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Lyndon Johnson as they teach us lessons transformational leadership, crisis management, turnaround leadership, and visionary leadership during times of turbulence and unrest. The session will provide key lessons and strategies for participants to apply in their personal and professional lives.

John Bennett, Ph.D., serves as the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. Chair of Leadership, professor of business and behavioral science, and director of graduate programs for the McColl School of Business.

This is a part of a mini-series focused on Queens University of Charlotte’s 2020-21 Common Read featuring renowned presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Leadership: In Turbulent Times. Her book offers context for our turbulent times and demonstrates how today’s leaders can learn from the past. The Common Read Program, in partnership with The Learning Society, is a cross-campus, multidisciplinary experience that connects students, staff and faculty in a shared intellectual experience, inspiring curiosity and sparking conversation.
