Queens’ Master of Science in Talent & Organization Development Program (MSTOD) offers a professional development opportunity each summer with a new theme. The three one-hour sessions are experiential, facilitated by MSTOD faculty or alumni, and support participants’ understanding of the influence and impact that we have on others. Participants can obtain continuing education credits and build their professional network.
Mini-Conference Agenda
Session 1 - Trends in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Dr. Loretta Evivie, Professor of Practice of Leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
As people are organizations’ most important assets, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) is ubiquitous across industries. DE&I initiatives have experienced varying levels of success, with many having outcomes different than those initially predicted. This interactive session, which includes an intersectionality activity and small group discussion, explores DE&I trends in organizations to provide comparison points to your organization’s DE&I approach.
Session 2 - Embracing Full and Authentic Identity in the Workplace
Darryl White Sr., MSTOD ’22, Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
To what extent are you comfortable sharing all of your identities inside of the workplace? Which identities do you opt to keep hidden? Why? This session utilizes an activity and small group discussion to help you explore these questions. Then, the facilitator provides insights on the potential advantages of bringing your full and authentic identity into the workplace while providing guidance on how to embrace differences in others’ identity.
Session 3 - The Inclusive Leader – Living, Learning, and Leading
Dr. Greg Berka, MSTOD Program Director, Associate Professor
What experiences impact your feelings of inclusion (or exclusion) in the workplace? Are these the same things that impact others? They may not be, as our experience could be more individualized than we realize. This session explores the multiple dimensions of the inclusion experience and highlights how we influence the inclusion experience of others. Application of session content to yourself and your organization will occur via reflection and small group discussions.
Networking Reception
Enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres with Mini-Conference participants and members of the Queens MSTOD community following the sessions.
