He identifies himself as a Proud Mexican-American. He grew up in Stockton, California and moved back to San Francisco, where he was born, to pursue an art career. He graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Interdisciplinary Art, and in 2003, earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was awarded a Weiss Fellowship for Urban Livability.
