The Wisdom of Teams? Managing the Shadow Side of Group Dynamics

We experience most of our lives in a group setting, whether on a work team, our family unit or a foursome on the golf course. And while several best-selling books applaud “The Wisdom of Teams” (Katzenback and Smith, 2003), we have all experienced frustration, anxiety and irritation in group settings. These negative feelings often lead to disengagement and lower performance.

So, is there even such a thing as “wisdom” or “synergy” that can be uncovered and cultivated in teams?  The answer is “Yes,” but to successfully navigate these waters we must become of aware of the group “Shadow” – the unconscious element that exists in all groups – and more comfortable managing this underlying element of group life.

This interactive session will provide proven strategies and tips for identifying and managing group culture and improving experiences and performances in groups and teams.
