Women's History Month: An Evening with Colombian Poet and Dancer Kurma Murrain
DICE and the Center for Latino Studies invite you to join us for an evening with Kurma Murrain for poetry and dance. Kurma graduated from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and is a published Colombian-American poet. Her works include the books Esta Soy & In the Prism of Your Soul as well as collaborative projects. For her most recent book Coffee, Love & The American Dream, Kurma was awarded Author of the Year by the Queen City Awards in 2021.
Kurma will share her journey as written in her book Coffee, Love, and the American Dream. From her native Colombia to the United States, to China, and back in the United States including her experience during the pandemic and a love story that is part of the archives of the Mint Museum, the Levine Museum of the New South, and UNCC.
Kurma will also be sharing her poetry and typical dance from Colombia, cumbia, which is popular at festivals and carnivals around the country, especially at El Carnaval de Barranquilla.
